At its best, outreach is about building lasting relationships with communities. My career has centered on creating those kinds of connections across government, media, and community organizations.

When Seattle’s Office of Inspector General needed to make oversight feel relevant, I built the agency’s first communications program. The shift was immediate: public meeting attendance grew by 700% in just seven months, and the plan I designed was later adopted by oversight offices across the nation.

For Community Transit, the goal was different but the challenge was the same: how do you get people to see the value in taking public transit? I partnered with travel expert Rick Steves to produce a campaign that showed residents the adventures waiting at the end of a bus ride. The result was an award‑winning series. More importantly, it triggered a surge in ridership and a renewed sense of possibility for Seattle's largest public transit provider.

While serving in the U.S. Navy, I led outreach efforts in Vietnam, Australia, and India, working with Sailors who volunteered in orphanages and schools. Acting as a liaison between military leaders and local communities taught me how to navigate sensitive, cross‑cultural environments where trust was everything.

At PBS, I brought that same focus on engagement to family‑centered events like the Explore the Outdoors Fair. Hundreds of community members came together for a day of play and discovery.

Across these experiences, my approach has been consistent: understand the audience, tell a story they can see themselves in, and design strategies that gets them to show up. The work featured here shows what led to packed city halls, full buses, stronger diplomatic relationships, and days of family learning.
